東西線と東葉高速鉄道の男
一週間ほど前のこと。東西線で乗り入れている西船橋駅を経て東葉（とうよう）勝田台へ向かう車中、iPadアプリの「SketchBook Pro」を立ち上げ、ひとさし指でスケッチした。
座席の端にある、縦のアルミのポールといえばいいのか、乗客がつかむこともある棒を描くのが少し困難だ。私が技術が未熟なせいもあるが、指でスーッと直線を描くのは、思いのほか難しい。定規を用いるわけではないからか、曲線よりも直線のほうがむずかしく感じる。定規を使えたとしてもなるべく使用したくないし、私はフリーハンドの線が好き。それに、フリーハンドの線と定規で引いたような直線を組み合わせると、同じ画面上の絵としてうまく馴染まない気がする。
いや、これは思い過ごしか。マンガの絵など、フリーハンドの線とかちっとした直線が同一画面上に共存していることは珍しくない。御法度ではないから、好みの問題か。好き嫌いでいえば、直線を描くとしても、下書きとして引いた直線をフリーハンドでなぞるというように、フリーハンドの手跡を残すほうが味が出やすいし、私の趣向には合っている。
話が脱線した（いい言葉ではないか）。眼鏡をかけた男性は西船橋で下車し、その後、ふた駅ほどしてからだっただろうか、マスクを付けた男性がいずれも真向かいの席に座った。iPadに指でスケッチしているとは思われなかったのだろう。ご本人に気づかれるとムッとされるかもしれないし、何よりこちらが恥ずかしい気分になる。
指で人をスケッチするのは楽しいのだが、定規を使わないからか、直線を描くのは容易ではない。線の太さや色、筆のタイプなども選べ、ひとさし指でササッと描ける。絵を描くのが好きで、iPad（最初のiPadでも、iPad2でもOK）を持っている人にはこのアプリをおすすめしたい。
チョークの粉を指につけて黒板に文字を描くとか、砂に指で絵を描くとか、そんな原始的な気分が味わえる。指の腹とiPadのディスプレイとの接触なのだが、指一本であっても、肉体を用いて絵を描くのは、不思議な気持ちよさがある。肉感的快感、とでもいっておこう。
専用のマウスパッドのようなものに、専用のペンで線を描くことで、ディスプレイに絵や線を表出させる（ワコムの）ペンタブレットのようなツールもあるが、「SketchBook Pro」と別物といっていいと思う。指で直接描いているような気になれるぶん、体感としてまったく異なる。ペンタブレットは、画面に直接、専用ペンをふれて描くタイプのものもあるが、それにしたって、指そのものをペンにして描くわけではない。
「SketchBook Pro」未体験の人には、フィンガースケッチの快感を一度、味わってもらいたい。
