洗濯物を干しながらラジオをつけていたら(正確にはiPhoneでラジコというアプリを使って聴いていた)、岡ノ谷一夫さんという方がゲストで呼ばれ、動物の言葉の研究について語っていた。
岡ノ谷さんによれば、ジュウシマツをはじめ、さまざまな鳥やクジラなど、唄を歌うような生き物はいろいろいろいるが、そのほとんどは ラブソングだという。つまり、求愛の歌であり、求愛の言葉。
そういえば、源氏物語に出てくる光源氏など、やんごとない男たちも歌を詠んでいたなぁ。現在でも、J-POPにしてもそうだけど、ヒットする曲は多くがラブソングだろう。
ラブソングが多すぎることについて、僕は疑問に思ったことがあったけど、よく考えたらそれはそれでしょうがない、というか、そういうものなんですよね。男が求愛し、男が歌い、女がそれを選びとる。
そういう流れは、動物の時代からというか、ずっとずっと太古から連綿と続いてきたもので、ちょっとやそっとで変わるものではないのだろう。
柄にもないけど、僕も恋の歌をつくろうと思った。
番組で紹介されていた、岡ノ谷一夫さんの『言葉はなぜ生まれたのか』(文藝春秋)もおもしろそうです。
