ドラッカーと物々交換

　ほぼ日に「はじめてのドラッカー」という連載がある。いや、2009年の連載だから、「あった」というべきか。

　その連載は、ほぼ日の主宰者である糸井重里さんと、ピーター・ドラッカーの著作の多くを手がけた翻訳家の上田惇生さんによる対談によるものなのだが、その中で「自分たちの強みに気付け」という言葉が出てくる。

　これはドラッカーによる有名な言葉のひとつで、ひとことでいえば「自分たちが持っている長所を見極めて、それを生かせ」といった意味なのだと思う。これはシンプルな考え方だけど、「言うは易し、行うは難し」で、じゃあ、実際に自分たちに当てはめてみろ、といわれるとそれほど簡単ではない。

　このことは、「自分はどうか。自分の強みは何か」と自問しているところでもあるのだが、「強みに気付け」について思い当たることがあった。

　それは昨日の朝、いつものようにJ-WAVEの「TOKYO MORNING RADIO」を聴いていたら、若い男性が下北沢の一番商店街へ出向き、古着屋かリサイクルショップからレポートするコーナーがあった。そこは、「NEW YORK JOE EXCHANGE（ニューヨーク・ジョウ・エクスチェンジ）」というお店らしく、元は銭湯だった場所（「入浴場」をもじったようだ）。下北沢にいた頃、僕も訪れたことがある銭湯で、「ドラゴン危機一髪事件」でひやひやしたこともあるのだが、それはさておき、そのお店がなぜラジオ番組で取り上げられたのかを考えてみた。

　それはおそらく、こうだと思う。古着屋はたくさんあり、特に下北沢にはいくつもあるのだが、「ニューヨーク・ジョウ・エクスチェンジ」では、こんなサービスも行っている。

　それは、

　持ち込んだ古着を査定してもらう→査定金額が出る→そのまま買い取ってもらってもいいし、「物々交換」してもいい

　査定金額の6割にあたる金額分のものと、交換してもらうこともできる。

のである。

「なぜ、交換する場合は、10割でなくて、6割なのだろう？」という疑問も生まれたが（物々交換の客が増えすぎることを抑制しているのか）、きっと「物々交換」システムが珍しいから、このお店が選ばれたのだろう。このお店だけのサービスではないだろうけど、たしかに珍しい感じがするもんね。

　自分たちの強みに気付け

　この言葉は、シンプルだけど深そうだ。「オンリーワン」をめざせ、ということか。いや、オンリーワンでなくてもいいかもしれない。古着の物々交換は、「ニューヨーク・ジョウ・エクスチェンジ」だけのものではないだろうし。エリアとしての近くや、商圏がかぶる場所、顧客が重なる中に競合がいない程度の「強み」であれば、一応はいいのではないだろうか。

　最後、歯切れがわるくなってしまった感もあるが、「自分たちの強みに気付け」を自分にも当てはめて、行動に移してみようと思った。
　

※上記を書いたあと、「ニューヨーク・ジョウ・エクスチェンジ」の記事を読み直したところ、「買い取り額は、査定金額の30％」「トレード（物々交換）は、査定金額の60％相当の店内商品と交換」とのこと。つまり、気に入った商品が店内にあれば、「物々交換のほうが得」のようである。
